26-May-2013 -- We had spent a few days in Ceduna after doing 29S 139E on the Birdsville Track and on the way home to Esperance in Western Australia, we decided to see how many more CP's on 29S could be completed.
We first had to obtain the appropriate permits from the Maralinga Tjarutja authorities and then drive about 450 km to Cook on the Trans Australian Railway. From there we had to go up the Vokes Hill Road approximately 200 km north over the Nullarbor Plain and into the Mallee country of the Great Victoria Desert to find 130E. This track from Vokes Hill to Cook was originally made by Len Beadell in the early 1950's, however today its path has been modified by mineral exploration companies and thanks to them, we were able to get to easy walking distance to the CP.
When we arrived at the approximate turn-off point on the afternoon of the first day, we were somewhat disappointed because the CP was about 30 km away and the surrounding bush was too thick to drive through, so it looked like it was back to Cook and no CP. We camped on the edge of a nearby lake and next morning set off back to Cook. We went south for a few km's and noticed a track off to the Southwest. We had nothing to lose so we went down it and after a short distance it turned to the Northwest and it took us to within 1100 metres of the CP.
After our success here it was obvious we had to try for 29S 131E.
