20-Jan-2015 -- I was in Abū Ẓaby for the Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge (a race for vehicles powered by the sun), and on the last day of my stay I decided to try if I could reach 24N 54E.

From Abū Ẓaby I took the E11 westwards. At the time of my visit that was not a very pleasant road to drive. From just outside of Abu Dhabi until the exit I took (and much further, too) there were road works to build a new road. The current road was extremely busy with many heavy trucks plodding their way westward. It looked like it will look like this for some years to come.

I took the exit at 24.044912°N 53.930143°E and moved south until 23.974104°N 53.924295°E. It took me approximately an hour to reach this point from my hotel on Yās Island. There I discovered that the dirt road described in a previous visit would be too much of a challenge for my little Nissan Sunny. So, for now, I will have to log an incomplete visit.

I took a photo at 23.974104°N 53.924295°E looking east, and it looks like either a road or a foundation for pipeline being under construction.

For future visitors: I recommend approaching the CP from the west, using the coordinates above. I also don't recommend trying it with anything other than a four-wheel drive. I'd try it in a heartbeat even with a 4WD SUV, but not with a two-wheel drive road vehicle.
