08-Jul-2000 -- It is the 8th of July and our group is in Epinal, France.
We are on a confluence hunt today. The gang, Chris, Marylin, Janine, and I, are
not only hunting in a foreign country but one of us has to drive as well. We choose
Chris -- he has prior experience over here.
From Epinal we travel southwest along highway D 460 through Darney and on
to Monthureux-sur-Saone, where we will turn south on roadway D 2. It took nearly
an hour to get close. Partly due to the fact that we missed our turnoff at
Monthureux-sur-Saone and continued on D 460. However, we did spy an interesting
statue. Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, but near enough the to the road to be
seen. We are getting used to finding artwork in the country, but usually it is of a
religious nature (photo #5).
We have the Foret Domaniale de Darney on our left through the last half of the
trip. Our target is in the southwest corner of the forest. It is on the edge of the
forest and we hope to not have to walk far.
Back in Monthureux, we turn south towards Regnevelle but take the left hand
split on D 2E towards Martinville. Just north of Martinville we turn back northeast
and find a road into the forest. Off of this road we find an access road that leads
us to within 100 meters of the confluence.
From there Chris and I head into the underbrush. We take a couple of shots of
ourselves but unfortunately you can’t see the forest for the trees. Still, it is a lovely
and tranquil area.
