30-Jul-2016 -- After stopping in nearby Kaunas to visit the sobering “Monument to the Victims of Fascism” (where tens of thousands of Jews were killed during World War II), I continued on to visit this point - which I knew was located just inside a large pond.

I had been looking forward to spending some time at (what appeared to be) a scenic point - perhaps even wading into the pond to try to get ‘all zeros’. From satellite imagery, I could see that there were several different dirt roads that I could use to approach the point. I chose 55.00614°N 23.99222°E - to the northwest of the point, because I wanted to avoid bothering residents of nearby houses. This starting point was about 800 m from the point. I had been looking forward to a leisurely hike across a field and back.

However, when I got to the starting point, I could see a large, imposing thunderstorm approaching from the west. I knew that I had only a few minutes to get to the point and take photos before I got drenched, so I had to rush across a wheat field to the bank beside the pond, quickly take photos, and rush back to my car. Even so, I was only about halfway back to my car when the storm hit. I got soaked to the skin, and had to change clothes soon afterwards. Unfortunately my camera (a DSLR) wasn't as lucky. I kept it inside a plastic bag during the rainstorm, but apparently some moisture leaked inside, because I found that it wouldn't turn on afterwards. Therefore, I'll have to use my iPhone's camera to photograph any future Degree Confluence Points during this trip.
