17-Apr-2010 -- Esta vez rumbo al Noroeste de la ciudad de Tarija, en territorio del departamento de Potosí, nuestra parada sería la población de Cotagaita, tuvimos la suerte de compartir la cena con personas del lugar, quienes muy amablemente nos indicaron los caminos para ascender a la montaña Chorolque (5571 msnm) y acercarnos a la confluencia.

Nuestro vehículo estaba preparado para la altura, pero sabíamos que el consumo se incrementaría por la falta de oxígeno, así que llevamos gasolina extra. Salimos de Cotagaita a las 6:00 am, por un camino al Oeste por los márgenes del río Cotagaita, tras 25 km de recorrido llegamos al inicio del ascenso, estábamos a 2950 msnm y el camino se veía increíblemente empinado, colocamos nuestro 4x4 en L4 y a subir, a medida que subíamos el camino era más angosto y en muchos lugares destruido por las lluvias que producían que el pasar nos cause vértigo. Pasamos por Sagrario, población a 4500 msnm que se ubica al lado Este de la montaña, el camino continua bordeando la montaña por el norte hasta llegar a otra población llamada Santa Bárbara. Quedamos muy sorprendidos como viven tantas personas en esta montaña.

Nos desviamos por una huella y llegamos a 5.000 msnm con el vehículo, todo un record para nosotros. La vista es increíble, al noreste se logra ver el salar de Uyuni, al oeste la Cordillera de los Andes frontera con Chile, al sureste la Cordillera de Sama en Tarija.

Habiendo cumplido con nuestro primer objetivo, descendimos la montaña por un camino que va desde la población de Santa Bárbara hacia Atocha, desviándonos por otro camino poco transitado hacia el Sur-Este, que nos llevaría a la confluencia, nos acercamos a tan solo 3 kilómetros, el camino seguía pero estaba cortado.

Como ya es costumbre seguimos hacia nuestro objetivo a pie, la caminata duro alrededor de 40 minutos, bastante animados porque el trazo del camino ya casi destruido nos dirigía prácticamente a la confluencia, ubicamos el punto muy cerca del camino, sacamos las fotografías y disfrutamos de ver la imponente montaña, donde pocas horas antes habíamos estado.

Contentos de lograr el punto, retornamos rápidamente hasta llegar al vehículo y proseguir viaje, con rumbo a la ciudad de Tupiza, para seguir al día siguiente a Tarija.

17-Apr-2010 -- This time heading to the Northwest of Tarija city, in the territory of the Department of Potosí, our stop will be at Cotagaita. We were lucky to share dinner with local people, who very kindly pointed out us the roads to ascend to the mountain Chorolque (5571 masl) and closer to the confluence.

Our vehicle was ready for height, but we knew that consumption would increase due to the lack of oxygen, so we carry extra fuel. We left Cotagaita at 6:00 am, by a road to the West by the Cotagaita River margins, after 25 km of travel we arrived at the beginning of the ascent. We were at 2950 meters and the road looked incredibly steep, put our 4 x 4 at L4 and rising, as we went up the road was narrow and in many places destroyed by the rains that produced that the pass may cause dizziness. Pass by Sagrario population at 4500 meters which is located on the East side of the mountain, the road continues along the mountain to the North until you reach another village called Santa Bárbara. We were very surprised as many people living on this mountain.

We turn off on a trail and arrived at 5,000 meters above sea level with the vehicle, a record for us. The view is amazing, Northeast are seen the Salar de Uyuni, to the West of the Andes frontier with Chile, to the South-East the Cordillera de Sama in Tarija.

Having met with our first objective, descended the mountain by a road that goes from the population of Santa Barbara towards Atocha, diverting us by another road little traveled towards the South-East, that us would lead to the confluence, approaching us to only 3 kilometers, the road remained but was cut.

As usually we continue towards our objective to foot, the walk hard around 40 minutes, enough animated because the track of the road already almost destroyed ran us practically to the confluence. CP is located very near the road, took them photographs and enjoyed of see the imposing mountain, where few hours before had State.

Happy of achieve the point, return quickly to get to the vehicle and continue travel, with heading to the city of Tupiza, to continue to the day following to Tarija.
