26-Feb-2017 -- This is the third out of six reports reaching confluence points during a bicycle trip from Lisbon to Ciudad Real. The story starts at 39°N 9°W and continues from 39°N 8°W.
In the early morning I started cycling from the UNESCO town Elvas. After an hour of cycling (20 km), I reached the town Campo Maior. From there, it is another 5 km on small roads the confluence point (the last kilometre is unsealed). For the very last 400 m, an agricultural track bordering an olive groove can be used. At a distance of 80 m I parked my bike to reach the exact location on foot.
The confluence is located just 2 km from the border to Spain. On my way back I wanted to continue the unsealed road further to the East. According to the satellite image and digital maps, this was possible, but in reality I was confronted with a gate and a fence. I tried to circumvent the fenced compound and ended up walking a couple kilometres through wet high grass until I finally reached a road again. But: I did not take any road twice!
I crossed the border to Spain and continued my journey eastwards.
