28-Feb-2017 -- This is the last out of six reports reaching confluence points during a bicycle trip from Lisbon to Ciudad Real. The story starts at 39°N 9°W and continues from 39°N 5°W.
After spending the night in the village Abenójar, I started my last leg of this trip. Actually, I didn’t intend to visit this confluence point, because I had visited it already 8 years ago in 2009. But it was so conveniently located on my way to Ciudad Real that I could not refrain from visiting it. Not much has changed since then. It is still quite a desolate place with ruins in 80 m distance. The nearby farm house gave me also an impression of desertion.
The confluence is located 6 km north-west of the city Ciudad Real and can be easily reached on minor roads. The exact location is right in the middle of an access track to a farmhouse.
I cycled through the old town of Ciudad Real and then to the train station. Actually, I intended to take the famous high-speed train to Madrid where I had my flight back home to Zurich in the evening. But the conductor wouldn’t let me take the high-speed train with my bicycle (even though I was able to put it in a bicycle-bag). Luckily enough, I had enough time to take the slow train, which took 3 hours instead of 53 minutes.
From Madrid Atocha Railway Station I cycled to the airport (which is not recommendable) and wrapped my bicycle into plastic sheets for save transportation in the plane. My bicycle and me – we reached Zurich safely at 11 PM.
