16-Jun-2017 -- During a family summer vacation in the holiday park "Hof van Saksen" in the nearby village of Nooitgedacht. The CP was only half an hour away by car from the holiday park, so one evening I just decided to drive over and see if I could visit it. The last visit was about a year and a half ago, so it was about time that some one checked up on this CP :-)
The CP is very easy to find, I just used Google Maps to navigate to "53N 7E" and it delivered me about 50 m from the CP. I parked the car at a nearby intersection and walked along the field until I could make a ninety degree turn into the field.
Interestingly, the first field I passed at my left contained rows and rows and rows of hemp (see the photos). Something I didn't think one could legally grow in such quantities in the Netherlands, but apparently one can.
The CP was in the middle of a field where corn was growing. The corn was only about 40 cm tall or so, so I could easily step over it without damaging any plants. I know next to nothing about corn, but I think that in about a month's time it might not be so easy to cross the corn field without damaging the crops.
GPS reception was excellent this nice summer evening, and I actually walked right into the zeroes with a 3 m accuracy. Taking the required photos also took very little time, so after spending less than five minutes at the CP I made my way back to the car.
I wish I could say that this is the most interesting CP ever and everyone should visit. But actually, there is absolutely nothing there except for the plants. I did not see any people, and during my visit only two cars passed by.
Still, it was a nice outing on a nice summer evening, and it's always a nice feeling to add another CP to one's collection. Also, it's always interesting to give some thought to the contrasts inherent in visiting a CP; the regularity of the lat/lon system against the randomness of the CP locations, and the interesting concept behind the Degree Confluence Project against the absolute boring nature of some CPs.
