#1: The Confluence from 15 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz)

12-Nov-2017 -- This is the last out of 3 reports reaching confluence points during a 4-day cycling trip from Rome to Benevento. The story starts at 42°N 13°E and continues from 42°N 14°E.

Riding to a diagonally neighbouring confluence in mountain terrain takes some energy and time. Nevertheless, I reached this confluence 24 hours after I had left the one to the north-west. After passing through the city of Benevento (30 km distance), I made my way to the little town Taurasi (4 km distance) and finally I saw the village Sant’Angelo all’Esca (1 km) on a nearby hilltop. On the small Strada Provinciale 52 one can get as close as 130 m to the confluence.

I parked my bicycle not at the nearest distance from the road, because there was a house with cars parked in front of it, indicating that there are people. By parking 100 m further east, I could avoid lengthy explanations for my doing. I walked 200 m through orchards and bushes of ferns until I reached smoothly my target.

I found the confluence point in a walnut grove – at the time in colourful leaves. The house is about 100 m away – just far enough for the dogs not to detect me and begin barking.

I had another day for cycling, but reaching another confluence was out of question within one day, because I had to get back to Rome as well. So I returned to Benevento and spent the night there. On the evening of the next day, I flew back from Rome to my home in Zurich.
