17-Feb-2019 -- At last! 43N 2E is only 160 km away of our home but we never visited it since we started to confluence in 2010! But last Sunday we were able to grab an occasion and made a side trip by car on our way from Montpellier to Toulouse.
As already mentioned the point is easy to reach; it is located in an apple orchard on the bank of the river l’Hers. A small ramp allows to park a car and walk down in the orchard from the road. Zeroing the point can be tricky because the apple tree rows are oriented North-South and the point is closer of the river (south side of the orchard) than the road (north side). So one may end up walking up and down a few rows before being able to find the right one and zero the point. But this is all fun. Winter is a good time for a visit because there is no watering and the protection nets are kept open.
If you visit this point, don’t miss the very nice medieval town of Mirepoix (XIII century) just 15 minutes NW of the point (by car).
