(visited by Ross Finlayson)

11-Mar-2020 -- I was intrigued by this Degree Confluence Point, as it had been visited only once before - by Scott Anderson, almost 19 years ago - and yet it looked very interesting, and seemed fairly easy to reach. Satellite imagery suggested a 1.7 km each-way hike through woodland from a quarry, just north of Lake Leake Highway.

I parked beside Lake Leake Highway, outside the (locked) gate (at [-42.01556,148.00004]) that led to the quarry. From there, the remaining 1.5 km hike northwards started out easy, through thinly forested eucalyptus woodland. As I got within about 500m of the point, however, the bush got denser, making it hard to continue hiking. Even here, however, there were several patches of clear land nearby; the trick was to keep looking for the bare patches scattered among the more dense bush. The point lay just on the southern edge of one of these bare patches, which conveniently provided a place for me to launch my drone. I could hear the nearby Brushy River (less than 100m away), but didn’t bother to hike to the river bank, as this appeared to require slogging through a patch of dense bush. I did, however, get lots of great views of the river from my drone.

Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
