24-Jul-2021 -- Having spent the previous night in Grand Junction, I had some time to spare before driving to Salt Lake City, so I decided to take a crack at visiting this Degree Confluence Point. My plan was to drive through the Colorado National Monument and the settlement of Glade Park, then take A 2/10 Road (aka. Little Dolores Road) to [39.01651,-109.01321] (1.3 miles NW of the point), park there, and hike (South, then East) the rest of the way.
Everything was going well. until - 2.80 miles from the point - I ran into a locked gate at Mountain Island Ranch. Apparently this ranch is an ‘island’ of private property within a ‘sea’ of BLM land.
I then tried to find an alternative dirt road that would let me bypass Mountain Island Ranch. I found a doubletrack dirt road at [38.99689,-108.93691] that appears to bypass the ranch to the South, but this road soon became a little too sketchy for my 4WD SUV. So I gave up, and decided to record this as an ‘incomplete’ visit for now. I’ll reattempt to visit this point some other time, when I have a whole day to spend in the Grand Junction area. I’ll try to combine mountain biking and hiking, and perhaps try to approach the point from the East, rather than from the Northwest.
