03-Apr-2023 -- Today I was driving from Ballarat to Melbourne, and needed to spend some time before I could check in to my hotel in Melbourne. I was originally planning to visit Ballarat's "Sovereign Hill” historical park, but it turned out to be closed on Mondays. So instead I decided to make a detour to ‘visit’ this point, even though I knew that it would only be an ‘attempt’. (Unlike the previous visitors, I didn’t have a permit to visit the military base, nor (not being an Australian citizen) was I likely to get one.) So I took a photo through the fence, 686m (+/- GPS error of 2m) South of the point.
I would have liked to have flown my drone up from the roadside - staying outside the military base - to get a view towards the point from 686m away. But the "OK2Fly” web site made it clear that the road to the south is also in military controlled airspace, so drones cannot be flown here.
