07-Jan-2024 -- Em janeiro de 2024, aproveitei umas férias de uma semana para viajar pelo estado de Goiás, um estado não tão distante da minha casa, em Montes Claros, e que ainda tem uma grande quantidade de confluências a serem visitadas.

Saí de minha casa na manhã do sábado, 6 de janeiro, e viajei até Brasília, a 700 quilômetros de distância. Parei para almoçar na cidade de João Pinheiro e aproveitei para ir até o centro desta cidade para tirar algumas fotos.

No dia seguinte, domingo, segui viagem rumo ao norte, com o objetivo de tentar, pela segunda vez, registrar a confluência 14S 49W. Há três anos, em janeiro de 2021, em uma viagem de carro até Marabá, no Pará, fiz a primeira tentativa e cheguei a percorrer alguns quilômetros do trecho em estrada de terra, mas começou a chover e eu desisti.

Desta vez, em razão de a nova tentativa ser feita na mesma época do ano, era possível que eu enfrentasse o mesmo problema. E, de fato, choveu em alguns trechos da viagem de 335 quilômetros de asfalto desde Brasília.

Ao virar à direita e iniciar o trecho de estrada de terra, de 14 quilômetros, porém, não estava mais chovendo. Mas havia nuvens carregadas exatamente na direção em que eu estava seguindo. Havia alguns trechos com grandes poças de água, mas que não me impediram de prosseguir.

Consegui ir mais longe do que na tentativa anterior. Quando, porém, ainda faltava 3.230 metros a percorrer até o ponto exato, uma grande área alagada não me permitiu prosseguir. Devido à distância não muito grande, resolvi prosseguir a pé.

Após caminhar por 850 metros, porém, começou a cair uma chuva forte, que tornou inviável seguir em frente. Além de não estar disposto a fazer uma caminhada tão longa sob chuva, fiquei preocupado com as condições da estrada, no caminho de retorno com o carro.

Desisti da visita, dei meia-volta e tive que caminhar até o carro sob chuva, chegando lá bastante molhado. Fiz todo o caminho de volta, com medo de o carro atolar na estrada de terra. Porém, não tive maiores problemas para voltar ao asfalto.

Segui viagem rumo ao norte pela BR-135, em direção ao estado do Tocantins, e parei para almoçar na cidade de Santa Tereza de Goiás, no mesmo restaurante em que eu almocei em duas ocasiões anteriores: em janeiro de 2021, na já citada viagem para Marabá, e em julho de 2023, em uma viagem para Carolina, no Maranhão, conforme citado na visita à confluência 7S 46W. Na presente oportunidade, porém, já era um pouco tarde, passava das 14 horas, e não havia mais almoço no restaurante.

Parei mais adiante e tomei um lanche, em substituição ao almoço. Logo a seguir, na cidade de Porangatu, eu deixei a BR-135 e segui para oeste, parando para dormir na cidade de São Miguel do Araguaia, a cidade mais a noroeste do estado de Goiás, na divisa com os estados de Mato Grosso e Tocantins.

07-Jan-2024 -- In January 2024, during a one-week vacation, I travelled to Goiás state, a not so distant state to my home in Montes Claros city, Minas Gerais state, and where there are many confluences that I hadn’t ever visited.

I left my home Saturday morning, January 6, and travelled to Brasília, 700 kilometers far. I stopped to have lunch at João Pinheiro city, Minas Gerais state, and went to the downtown of this city to take some photos.

At the following day, Sunday, I headed to the north, aiming to attempt, by the second time, to register 14S 49W confluence. Three years before, in January 2021, in a car trip to Marabá city, Pará state, I had attempted to visit this confluence. In that opportunity, I had driven some kilometers in dirt road leg, but a rain had started and I had given up.

At the current opportunity, due to the same period of the year, it would be possible that I will face the same problem. And, in fact, a rain fell in some legs of 335 kilometers trip by asphalt road since Brasília.

However, when I turned right and started the dirt road leg, 14 kilometers long, it wasn’t raining anymore. But there were dark clouds exactly in the direction to the exact point. There were some big puddles on the road, but they didn’t avoid me to go ahead.

At the current attempt, I managed to go farther than the previous one. However, when there were 3,230 remaining meters to win up to the exact point, a big flooded area blocked me. Due to a not so big distance, I decided to continue on foot.

After hiking by 850 meters, however, a strong rain starts, which turned undoable to go ahead. Besides I didn’t want to make a so long hiking under rain, I was concerned about the dirt road condition, at the way back with the car.

I gave up the visit, turned back and must to hike up to the car under rain, arriving there very wet. I made all the way back, concerned about the risk of being bogged at the dirt road. However, I didn’t face any problem to come back to the asphalt.

I resumed the trip heading to north by BR-135 highway, going to Tocantins state, and stopped to lunch at Santa Tereza de Goiás city, Goiás state, at the same restaurant where I had made lunch in two other opportunities: in January 2021, at the already cited trip to Marabá, and in July 2023, in a trip to Carolina city, Maranhão state, as cited in 7S 46W confluence narrative. At the current opportunity, however, it was too late, it was after 14:00, and there wasn’t more lunch at the restaurant.

I stopped a bit after and took a snack, replacing the lunch. Then, at Porangatu city, Goiás state, I left BR-135 highway and headed to west, stopping to spend the night at São Miguel do Araguaia city, the most northwestern city of Goiás state, at the border with Mato Grosso and Tocantins states.
