07-Oct-2024 -- After spending a weekend in Nungurner (80 km east) it was only a slight detour to visit this confluence point on our way back to Melbourne. A simple excursion, but my first in Australia, and the first ever for my friends.
As we turned off the Princes Highway towards the nearest town of Maffra, dark clouds filled the left side of the sky, and to our right rose the Victorian Alps in a perfect series of receding blue contours, fading and softening with distance.
At Maffra we took the exit to Sale and after four kilometres we pulled off the road beside a nondescript field. The wind shook the leaves of all the trees that lined the road. We didn’t need to jump a fence, like a previous visitor. We simply found an unlocked gate, although near the CP itself there was another barrier, a single low-strung wire that we jumped or ducked under. We located all-zeroes and walked back to the car having easily earned the day’s satisfaction.
