04-Mar-2001 -- My co-explorer
Thomas C.H. Mueller
and I made this visit on the way home from
N43 W91. With this visit,
we confirm the claim
made by Randy Joswig
and Jeremy Joswig
10-Sep-1999. Randy and Jeremy never left the gravel road to try to get right on the confluence,
but Tom and I agree that they were nevertheless well within 100m of it.
This visit was made considerably easier by the winter season making the wooded area
off the east side of the gravel road more passable. We parked the car on the gravel road
close to N43, jumped the barbed wire and entered the woods. It was a very short walk
(about 100 ft or less) to W090 and then we refined our north-south location. The GPS was
not receiving as many satellites as we would have liked, so our confluence estimate could
be off by up to 60 ft. Regardless, in the west-facing photo you can clearly see the car
where we parked it on the gravel road, probably pretty close to where the Joswigs stood
during their visit. The contrast you can see between the
dense summer foliage
in the Joswig photos and the sparse winter scene here is also rather striking.
