01-Jan-2001 -- What better activity for starting off the (real) new millenium than to go confluencing? Especially if you have a brand-new GPS unit to find one with? So that's what we did.

We set off mid-morning for Denver City, Texas, home of the Wasson Oil Field. It's about a two-hour drive, mostly through flat, irrigated cotton country with lots of oil wells. It was cold, and, as usual, real windy. The confluence is a few miles west of town; the aerial photo showed it to be in the middle of an irrigated field near a road.

As the eTrex directed us in, we realized that we were very lucky: a track road led north off the county road almost exactly along 103 West! We turned up the track, past a mobile home, and drove maybe a quarter-mile past the circle of one center-pivot irrigator into a large peanut field. The GPS ticked down to almost all zeros as we drove; I walked about ten feet east to get the paydirt in Picture 4.
