(visited by Curt Christiansen and Ryan Kapp)
01-Apr-2001 -- After lunch we headed west on Minnesota 27 to Little Falls
and on to Long Prairie. We took a short side trip in Little
Falls to see the home where Charles Lindbergh, Jr. spent
his childhood summers. Out of Long Prairie we went NW on
Todd County Rd 38 and then south and west on gravel roads to
within ½ mile of the point. We had some trouble getting a
good GPS read along this road, even a few trees seemed to
block out the signal. We finally settled on a farmhouse
driveway heading south. After a brief discussion with the
landowner (and showing him the permission letter), Leroy
came out to his yard with us. Ryan wandered around the
yard finding the point while I talked to Leroy. Leroy was
very nice but declined to be photographed for the website.
He showed us his ice fishing sled. A small contraption
that you tow out onto the frozen lake and then pop up.
It has two seats in it and allows one to fish in relative
comfort, out of the wind. He said he and his Dad enjoy
going out fishing with it. That weekend was probably the
last of the year to tow it behind a vehicle but you could
still tow it by hand. Ryan had some difficulty pinpointing
the site and since it was his first time operating the GPS
he didn't realize the shifting accuracy. We finally
decided it was in or near Leroy's shed. After a few more
photos it was off to find 46N96W. |
