12-May-2001 -- I was visiting my old home town on May 12th, 2001 and had some extra time available. Since I knew this confluence was about 17 miles away, I decided to take a look at it with a view towards recording it, but due to its location I expected that the terrain might be too inaccessible or wet for me to actually get to, especially since I was cleaned up for a change. But it was located in flat agrarian river bottoms so it was worth a try.
I took highway 99 to Oakville, Iowa which is located very near where the Iowa River empties into the Mississippi River. The confluence is located about 7 miles SSE from there. I drove East off 99 on Meekers Landing Road, North on 136th Ave, ENE on Lake Road and was able to drive within a quarter of a mile of it. There it was, wide open in the northeast corner of a picked corn field not yet reworked for spring planting because of previous rains in the area. So I walked in through the stubble and recorded what you see here, then walked out with nary any harm to my finery and I hardly worked up a sweat. Too bad I was solo on this trip, It was a nice day for a stroll in the country.
I dedicate this confluence to my daughters Cheryl and Linda and my son Bob.
