(visited by Ben Manthey and Michelle Lyon)
24-Jun-2000 -- Michelle and I left home around noon
and drove for about an hour and fifteen minutes to get to the general
area of the confluence. My atlas showed two small lakes preventing us
from approaching from the west so we were going to try from the east.
Unfortunately the road was fenced off about two miles away; however we
did startle two pronghorn antelope. We then drove around to approach
from the west. This also proved unsuccessful. The lady at the nearest
farmhouse thought we were very strange but said it was her land and we
could go on it. We passed through a latched gate and drove across a
pasture populated by white cattle. They looked at us like we might be
bringing them food. We then passed through a barbed wire gate. The path
ended on the far side of the gate. We decided to walk the final quarter
mile. The pasture was heavily covered with cow patties and cacti
blooming with yellow flowers. The confluence turned out to be exactly
under some power lines. The two lakes were nowhere to be found during
this dry spring. As we were walking back to my truck a pickup approached
on the other side of the fence, the lady had obviously called her
husband. He didn't stop so we climbed into my truck and drove home. |
