(visited by Larry Mays)

22-May-2001 -- The point is about twenty-two miles southwest of Hinckley, UT, in the Sevier Lake valley. Sevier Lake is a mostly dry salt flat that the Sevier River drains into. At the head of the lake, the river bed held water, but did not appear to be running. The lake lies on a north-south axis between the House Range on the west and the Cricket Mountains on the east. When I reached the confluence point by hiking 1/2 mile from a fairly good county road, it was obvious I was not the first visitor. There was a low cairn of rocks marking the spot. The point is on the slope of the Cricket Mountains above the lake bed. The hillside is sere and brown and covered with a dried grass that has darning-needle-like seed heads that soon had my ankles itching like crazy.
