21-Jan-2001 -- I had just found out about the Confluence project, and was interested as it overlaps with a hobby - Amateur Radio. In Amateur Radio, one challenge is to contact stations in, or from, different "Maidenhead Locators". The locators are 2 deg Longitude by 1 degree Latitude - the confluence should be apparent!

I was checking out possible radio sites and visited close to the 35S 148E confluence on a local hilltop. I parked the car as close to the confluence as possible, then visited the site using compass and pace-counting. Unfortunately the batteries in the GPS were flat & I had no spares! So, no direct GPS verification of the confluence - I had to rely on compass & pace counting from the location of the car (GPS running off the car battery).

The site is close to a ridge line in open farming country, with light timber in places. There are a couple of photos with views north and north-west toward the confluence. One shot shows the screen on OziExplorer in the car. The map displayed is an older one, not using the latest grid system. The access road has a gate with multiple padlocks. Fortunately, the gate was unlocked at the time of my visit.
