04-Jan-2000 -- I decided to attempt this confluence after aerial recon showed that there seemed to be few obstructions between the confluence and the road. The confluence point is south of a east-west road past a field and train tracks, down a hill and in some woods (pics #2-4). I drove to just north of the site and parked on the side of the road, in a sort of ditch. As I was getting out, someone stopped on the street and asked if I needed help. I told them no, but after walking away from my car I could kind of see his point. The top of the car was even with the road, and the incline up to the road seemed kind of steep. Oh well, I would deal with that later.

A train passed while I was walking toward the tracks, but the coast was clear as I crossed them. I had noticed that many of the GPS pictures on confluence.org read X.998 or Y.002, but until I tried to take a picture of .000, I had no idea how tricky it is. I finally gave up and was about to head back when a train came by and stopped on the tracks I needed to cross to get back to my car (pic #1). It seemed like a bad idea to try and walk in front of a stopped but running train so I decided to wait it out. In the meantime I was able to get a picture of a perfect reading (pic #5). After the train pulled away (slowly), I went back to my car to find that a car in a ditch will attract the attention of the sheriff fairly quickly (pic #6). I was able to pull back on to the road, although it seemed like one wheel came off the ground when I did.
