28-Jun-2001 -- This confluence point is quite near the Chungju Multi-Purpose Dam, located in the eastern area of Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do. I've attempted a visit yesterday (June 27th), because the confluence seem to be near the point reachable by bus. However, I was too late, having been to a hospital in the early afternoon just before the trip, and the bus took a slightly different course than expected (the bus apparently goes two different ways depending on what time I ride it). I was only 1.5km away from the confluence but my time was up and had to return. I always make the confluence visit a one-day trip, and return to the dorm to sleep so I wouldn't need to finance a motel stay. :)
So I decided to visit two confluence points today, one of which is this spot, and the other is
36N 127E. I needed a more carefully timed trip in order to pull this off, so I did more research on the train and bus timetables, as well as stop points that are relevant to the trip.
This confluence point was first on the agenda, as the train timetable indicated that visiting this one would save more time than visiting the other point first. Having assessed the necessary steps to go near the confluence already from the last attempt, I took the right bus at the right time. The bus went to the boat ferry near Chungju Multi-Purpose Dam. Along the end of the route (Picture #6), my GPS indicated that I was up to 80m from the target point! So after the bus stopped at the ferry, I walked back the way the bus went through to find the target point.
The actual confluence point was found to be located on the Chungju Lake, and there was no way down to the lake from the path, since it was very steep, but I could get up to 47m from the point (Picture #2). The point was near the ferry, as seen in picture #1, and boats regularly make trips near the Chungju Dam(Picture #3). The Chungju Dam, as seen in picture #4 and #5, was built about one and a half decades ago, and has proven to be a useful tool in controlling water resources, but it also made many towns and historical artifacts go underwater.
