18-Dec-1999 -- The confluence of 41N and 106W is on
the edge of BLM land at the border of Colorado and Wyoming. The
Medicine Bow National Forest is nearby to the west. To get to the
intersection, I went up to Cheyenne from the Denver area and then drove
west to Laramie on I80. At Laramie, I took state highway 230 to Woods
Landing, and then a dirt road (10) to the border. It was really
blowing. At times, I encountered ground blizzards on 230 that reduced
visibility to a few feet in front of the car. The confluence point was
about a mile from the road, and I walked 20 minutes to reach it.
The confluence was adjacent to a gully with a frozen stream at the
bottom. A national forest map showed this to be Maggie Creek. The
pictures show the views to the north, east, south, and west. Picture 1
is a more scenic view to the southwest with the sun about to break
through the overcast sky. There were no structures in the vicinity of
the confluence, but there were ranch buildings on road 10 about half a
mile north of the border. It looked like the area was used for grazing
in the summer. The vegetation was mostly sagebrush and grass. It was
late afternoon and getting cold, so I started back to the car as soon as
I shot a roll.
