15-Sep-2001 -- After a successful visit at 65N 18E earlier on Friday, September 15, 2001, we turned towards 65N 17E. The map showed us the roads and we followed them, taking us practically all the way to the confluence.

According to our map 65N 17E was supposed to be located right next to a creek named ”Storbäcken” (”The Big Creek”). This time the map was mistaken, however. Instead, the confluence turned out to be located exactly in the middle of the creek. The size of the creek (which is more like a small river than a big creek), together with the fact that the creek had flooded due to heavy raining, made it impossible to reach the exact point. Bertil, however, courageuosly stripped down to his underwear and managed to walk out to the actual shore of the creek taking him about ten meters from the confluence. (The picture of the GPS shows the reading we got from dry land. Out in the water Bertil managed to reach N 64° 59, 994 E 17° 00,000.)

65N 17E was a surprisingly beautiful place. We have the Degree Confluence Project to thank for getting us there.
