#1: looking north toward the Uinta Mountains

(visited by David Mower)

20-Sep-2001 -- 40N 110W. This DCP is in a desert area in north eastern Utah. Access is via a road known as the Nine Mile Canyon road, the first few miles of which is paved. There are many producing oil wells in the area. Hence, the road is heavily used by tanker trucks. There are many side roads.

The spot itself is in an undeveloped area. After locating it I built a small rock cairn. The soil must be poor and the rainfall sparse because the plant life is scattered and stunted. The only sign of man I could see nearby was a metal fence post with a small placard attached to the top. It was about 100 meters East from the DCP. I went there. The placard gave notice that it was on a boundary line of a private grazing allotment. It appeared to be very old. There was some handwriting on it which looked like a person’s name and a date in 1962.

The weather was beautiful. The sky was blue with a few puffy white clouds. The Uinta Mountains were on the northern horizon. My GPS was locked on to 10 satellites and showed an EPE of 4 meters. It was a great day.
