31-Oct-2001 -- French New Caledonia is an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, located an hour and a half from Brisbane, Australia, by jet. Two unvisited points were reported, but it seems that the southern one is located in the sea.

There are in fact several islands which offer a lot of different landscapes to the visitors. Wonderful dream beaches, extraordinary dive spots, scenic roads and tracks in the wild, beautiful waterfalls surrounded by tropical rainforest and very friendly people are the most remarkable faces of this land. Before our departure from France we had planned to visit this degree confluence. We had located it on the map near to the RPN2 road between KONE (West coast) and POINDIMIE (East coast). We started at 4:00 PM in Kone, blue sky, temp 32°C, best conditions. After 18km of an excellent paved road, the GPS indicated 400m distance to destination. We parked the car and climbed on a small hill. On top of it we discovered that an easier way is available more northward. We returned to the car and drove back to the entrance of an unpaved road near to a bus stop (S21.0062 E165.0012). We followed the road on 400m and parked the car. The destination is located at 100m on the other edge of a small river. It was not a problem to cross it because of the low water level. A man living nearby was washing clothes in the river. He told us that the level raises up to 4m during the wet season. The area is called "Petit Neami". We could approach up to 40m to the spot which seemed to be located behind a thick wall of bamboo trees.

The accuracy was 5m. The altitude displayed was around 60m.

Points of interest in the area:
Very near: One may continue a few km on the main paved road up to a scenic lookout at the pass and the "Tango plateau". There is a superb panoramic view toward west and the pacific ocean in the back.
