03-Oct-2001 -- It was a sunny day. We were on the road again from Cairns to Townsville. It was 10:00 in the morning and we had a little bit time. Australia in general and QLD in particular are fantastic areas for holidays. With our hired car we had already visited the scenic Atherton Tableland the day before and had rested overnight at Mission Beach. We knew that the Confluence point we were passing nearby had already been visited, but it was our first one in QLD.
This spot is located 4 km only from the Bruce Highway, near to Tully. There is a paved road passing between large sugar cane fields and leading westward to the beaches.
After passing nearby a small church isolated in the fields (see pictures) the point could be located on the right hand side at 300 m in the fields.
The surprised owner of the field was present on duty on his tractor. He didn’t know that he was the lucky owner of this famous spot.
As the sugar cane had been already removed, the point was now clearly visible this time!. Yahooo!!
The GPS displayed an accuracy of 5m. The altitude was 18m.
