10-Feb-2000 -- Kat and I went for a weekend to Fort Story and stayed in a nice little cabana that had once been officers' quarters. We didn't have a GPS at the time, but noted that a confluence was right off the coast in the waters visible from the lighthouse.
Not a successful attempt -- there was no way to get out on the water.
In the mouth of Chesapeake Bay, but the Cape Henry Lighthouses (the old one, from 1792, and the new one, from 1881) should be clearly visible, at a minimum, as well as some of the Fort Story military installation.
