10-Jun-2000 -- On June 10, 2000, Rodger Stamm and his
daughter Michelle attacked the confluence at 41N 83W, then continued
on to visit 41N/84W. We had been planning this for quite a while and
studied the maps thoroughly and even acquired a Garmin GPS unit for
the adventure. It was a hot sunny day and we had no air conditioning in
the car. We decided to alter our course and take a side trip to find
something cool like, ice cream. After that we got back on track and
continued driving through more beautiful Ohio farm country. We went right
to the confluence and found it just north of a one lane bridge right smack
in the middle of Riley Creek.
We noticed that this confluence was located within a five mile square
section on the map labeled "Old Indian Boundary" A reservation
for the Ottawa Indians was established here by the Treaty of the Rapids of
the Miami of Lake Erie on September 29, 1817. In 1831 a new treaty,
"....in order to obtain a more permanent and advantageous home for
themselves and their posterity...", took away the reservation and moved
the Indians to Kansas.
