29-Mar-2002 -- On March 24th, my wife (Rosane Lilie) and I made a first attempt to evaluate the degree of access difficulty to the place. On the following Friday we invited some friends, Mário and Elizabeth to a decisive attempt.
29/03/2002 the 6:40, we left Joinville in direction of Gaspar, more specifically Gasparinho (name from the small place), we drove 134km to arrive to this place (photo #4). At this point we began the walk, going up a street in ruins for about 800m. From here, it is possible to see a hill, photo #1 that is in front of our objective. To a certain point we saw that our trail didn't go in the wanted direction and we began the search of a trail that took us closer of the confluence. At this point we were at 800m of the confluence.
We found a trail practically occult for the brushwood that took us about 300m in the correct direction. But this trail finished and we had to do our trail with heavy knife. I began to have problems in guiding me with GPS in function of the dense vegetation, the sign loss was frequent, happily Mário had a clock with compass. We traced a direction and in the moments in that GPS entered in operation we verified our progress and we corrected the direction. We had to pass two valley, which forced us to go down and up heavy inclinations.
After 3h:30min of walking, opening our trail, we arrived to the confluence. It was very enjoyable, for countless times we thought this moment would not happen, but with the compass and GPS we made a precise navigation.
In the place we made the photo #3 that shows GPS, the photo #2 where appears the team and a last photo #5, where we can see Elizabeth and Rosane.
After we savor the moment, we began the return, that seemed to be just follow the trail that we did, but soon we saw that in this dense forest was enough to deviate few meters of the trail for you lose it. The result was that we had to do other trail to return. In the going Mário had lost a heavy knife, that we had given as lost, but for incredible that it seems, at a moment when Elizabeth stooped to uncoil the foot of a root she found the heavy knife just in front of her. In this exact point we crossed the trail that we did in the way to the confluence.
The time of return was of approximately 2 hours.
We were satisfied with the opportunity that the project Confluence provided us and we are motivated to find other Confluence. We were also satisfied for be the first ones to find a confluence of our state (Santa Catarina).
