13-Aug-2000 -- A recent visit to central Illinois enabled my wife and I to tackle the confluence at 41N, 89W, just northeast of Peoria. Summer in central Illinois means one thing and one thing only: CORN! If you're not looking at corn, you're probably looking at a soil-rejuvinating soybean crop. This confluence proved no exception to the rule. It is located in a cornfield (photo #1), about 50 feet north of the road. The section line roads in the midwest made the confluence a snap to get to (photo #3) from Interstate 39. To the north (photo #2), more corn. To the south (photo #4), soybeans. While the GPS receiver (photo #5) showed that the actual point was a short trek into the field, we did not want to end up like James Earl Jones in "Field of Dreams". Thus, we did not attempt to penetrate the dense crops. Our corny confluence bagged, we continued on our way.
