08-May-2002 -- With the morning still young, I decided to go to 46N 99W. I drove from 45N 99W north on Hwy 45 to Leola, SD. There I went west on Hwy 10 to McPherson 17 north. When I came to a T, I took county dirt roads to 46N 99W. When I was close to the confluence it was out in a pasture that was marked no trespassing. Around the bend was a farmyard, so I went over to ask permission to go take some pictures.
I was met in the driveway by two bouncing border collie dogs. G. J. Hoffman came to the door. He was an older gentleman. He wondered how I could tell where I was. I took him to my van and showed him my Garmin 12 gps. It had 8 satellites and I showed him the location of his farm. I asked if I could go take some pictures just over the hill from his place. He said, go ahead. In the photo to the west, you can see the top of his silo.
I went north 1 mile to Hwy 11 then straight east to Ellendale, North Dakota. For others trying to reach this confluence, the easiest way is straight West from Ellendale to 99W, then south.
