06-Oct-2000 -- I found out about this project while planning a trip back
to my home town to see some friends, so I scoped out
possible confluences. This is the only one that I could
make it to, and it took me many more months to get the
film developed, hence the delay. The date is the 6th of
October, the camera is old enough that its date has wrapped.
The road is very close to the confluence, so I drove slowly
while checking the GPS, and pulled over when I was at the
closest point. I knew that I had to cross a creek, but was
hoping that it'd be pretty small. The temperature was around
35-45 degrees Farenheit (and 10,000ft elevation) so I didn't
want to try it barefoot. I did manage to find a way across
(scared to death that I'd drop the GPS and/or the camera).
On the other side is some old burn, probably from the fires
of 1988, which made for a lot of obstruction and a lot of
work, but I made it. On the way back I found some game trails
that would've been easy to use.
I'm not in great shape, so the hike up had me huffing a bit.
This was made worse by the fact that I didn't want to run into
any game (bears aren't too likely, but are a possibility) so
I had to keep making a bunch of noise. Nothing like talking
to yourself for 30 minutes or so.
I am fairly sure that I have the order right for the pictures
(which one faces which direction), but it has been long enough
that I won't swear by it.
