03-May-2002 -- I hit the road early in the morning from my sister-in-law's new home in Moorhead, Mn. I took I-94 west to Valley City, ND turning south on ND 1. I followed ND 1 straight south over rolling hills for 60 + miles passing through Verona and Oakes, neither of any substantial size. I turned east on a gravel road, Dickey County 14B. 14B becomes Sargent County 5 after 4 miles. On the county line is another gravel road marked 114 Ave SE. I determined that this road would give me the best approach. Parking the car in a wide spot of the road .4 miles west of the confluence I rolled under the barbed wire fence and walked across the cow pie laden pasture (pic4). The land started to get marshy about half way across but I followed small trails through the head high reeds and never even got my feet wet. I easily located the point and took pictures around (pic5). Back in the car I retraced my steps stopping about 13 miles to the north at an old stagecoach station along Bear Creek that was in use from 1880-1882. All that is left is a sign (pic6). On the way back to Moorhead I diverted from my path to visit Ft. Ransom and also Standing Rock State Historic Site where you have a 360 degree view from high atop a bluff.
