#1: Beaulieu Canada warehouse in Ogden Industrial Park. The keeper of the confluence.

(visited by Alan Fox, Carolyn Fox and Max)

26-Jul-2002 -- While in Calgary we decided to visit this confluence and expand upon the previous visitors' submission. This confluence is indeed in a warehouse in Ogden Industrial Park in the city of Calgary. It is within the city limits, not actually SE of the city. Calgary, with a population of almost 1,000,000 people, is famous for the annual Calgary Stampede (rodeo) and was the location of the 1988 Winter Olympics. Not far from Calgary are the Rocky Mountains with popular tourist and ski resorts such as Banff and Lake Louise. Read more about Calgary here.

Beaulieu Canada at 2500 - 2590 61st Avenue SE is the warehouse with the confluence. The closest approach from outside the building is approximately 20 meters. Alan saw a ladder leading to the roof where he hoped he could get the zeroes on the GPS. Wayne, at Beaulieu Canada, was willing to let him go up there but did not have the keys to the roof access. Wayne would have had to phone the building management to come with keys so Alan decided to take the GPS readings from outside the building as he would be well within the 100 meters. The confluence is about 20 meters inside the middle blue walk-in door in picture # 2. A train track runs parallel to the building along the west side. The office entrance, a parking lot and loading bays are on the east side of the building. Trucks getting loaded with large rolls of carpet were parked at some of the bays. East of the parking lot is a similar looking warehouse. To the south is a lawn landscaped with trees and 61st Avenue. Across the street to the Southwest is a Canadian Pacific Railway yard. North of the building is an irrigation ditch connected to the Bow River with a paved bicycle path along it.

Following our success in the Industrial Park we drove to Crescent Road overlooking Memorial Drive, the Bow River and downtown Calgary. Here we walked along the paths and enjoyed the overviews of the city with other walkers, joggers, cyclists and a busload of Japanese tourists.
