#1: View to the south from the confluence

(visited by Mark Blakemore)

23-Aug-2002 -- I finally made it back to this confluence with a camera. I came from the east this time (while on my lunch break) and it was a lot easier. Using logging and tribal roads I was able to drive to within a few hundred yards of the confluence and hike the remaining distance. It was pretty easy [to] navigate to the stone marker I left the last time but oddly enough the business card I left was missing. I suspect it is lining the nest of a mouse or magpie. The marker I left the last time is off by about 2 feet but I left it in place because I was in a hurry and didn't feel like taking it down to rebuild it 2 feet away.

I would not recommend attempting this confluence without express permission from either or both the Jicarilla Apache Nation or the Southern Ute Tribe. Locating the Confluence requires access to one reservation or the other. I work for the Jicarilla Apache Nation so access wasn't a problem for me but it could turn into a messy situation if someone were to trespass to get to the confluence.

Pictures include all 4 directions from the confluence and a few others of interest.

Coordinator's Note: This visit is incomplete as it doesn't meet the photo requirements.
