09-Sep-2000 -- The confluence
is shown to be in a slough on the topo map, but in fact it is just
off the BNSF railway (used mostly during the grain harvest season) about 0.2 miles from a dirt
road. The slough is about 200 feet from the confluence. This was a very easy confluence to
find, and it is my first one. I used the GPS to circumnavigate the area (there are dirt roads
every mile in this part of South Dakota, so you can drive within a half mile of anywhere) and
choose the best (shortest) approach. I parked near a railway crossing and walked 0.2 miles
right up the track. The confluence is at the edge of the right-of-way, very near a fencepost
(in fact, after about 5 minutes the GPS reading for the confluence moved from one side of the
fence to the other). I took some shots in the tall grass then headed off to try 43N 97W.
