07-May-2002 -- Continued from 49N 88W

Day four finds us rolling through the Canadian prarie, to route 83 north in Manitoba, where we leave the Trans-Canada in search of 50N 101W.

We pass small farms, abandoned homesteads and lots of oil derricks. Eventually the GPS points down a two-track path at the edge of a field. A farmer is tilling the soil nearby, and eases our apprehension with a friendly, if bewildered wave.

When the path intersects some railroad tracks, we park the truck and lunch on some fine bagel sandwiches washed down with beer. Walking south on the tracks, we close in to within 400 ft. of the confluence, and find it in a field, close to a hedgerow. No bushwacking this time!

Luckily it's still early in the afternoon when we arrive back at my trusty truck, as we have a rendezvous in Regina with some crazy Canucks planned for the evening. We'll see you in Saskatchewan, at 50N 108W..........
