#1: Facing north through the 'caatinga' (semi-arid deciduos vegetation)

(visited by Luís Fernando de Tófoli, Flavia Ribeiro, Cristina de Tófoli, Fabio Röhe and Mateus Tomé Ribeiro de Tófoli)

22-Nov-2002 -- We arrived there at the end of the day, and that explains the low-contrasted pictures. In spite of that, it was extremely pleasant for us, since the sunset at semi-arid places produces splendid visions.

It's quite easy to reach there. The confluence is about 100 m (100 yards) from a secondary road that comes from the paved road to Taperuaba and goes north until Aracatiaçu. Both are districts, and belong to Sobral municipality. Cars without 4x4 might get there easily, specially in the dry seasons, what was happening at the time of the pictures.

The confluence is in a cattle field, empty at the moment -- and no one would expect to find cows where there is practically no surface water. But they left their tracks and we used them to find our way to the exact point.

We intend to come back to the site to take pictures during the wet season. All the deciduous vegetation will be again incredibly green, sided by the anual flowers, in a process very similar to what happen cold winter ecosystems -- although here, deprivation is hot.

Thanks to Cynthia and Claudio for lending the GPS.
