#1: Looking at Jabal Ġarīb located to the NW over the cairn we created at the DC.

(visited by Alan Torrigino, Brandon Torrigino and Sarah Torrigino)

24-Dec-2002 -- Christmas Eve at the base of 1751 m Jabal Ġarīb! This DC is approximately 10 km south of Jabal Ġarīb and provided another great excuse to spend another great night in the Eastern Desert!

We left the coast highway 29 km northeast of the DC. Three hours of varied off-track travel to the SW took us over two small, mountainous ranges and put us in the large unnamed wādiy that contains the DC. This wādiy stretches south, then east, then NE from Jabal Ġarīb and is connected to the west end of Wādiy Ġarīb. The nameless wādiy is nearly 10 km wide. It runs to the coast and provides the easiest access to the DC.

There are dirt tracks in this same wādiy that are currently utilized by quarry operations located 10 km to the SW of the DC. You may access this wādiy and these tracks to bypass the two intermediate mountain ranges. Leave the highway at N 28° 01.631', E 33° 17.969' to utilize this bypass and substantially shorten the time to access the DC.
