06-Mar-2003 -- We were in New Orleans for the annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers. We had not planned this confluence visit, but during a cruise on the Mississippi I took a waypoint reading and realized that there was a confluence on the riverbank nearby. Back ashore, a friendly Coast Guard officer showed us a map with the exact location, and we translated this to our tourist street map of New Orleans. Kris hired a car so we could visit Jean Lafitte National Park on our free afternoon, so we determined to visit the confluence also.

Provided you don't mind large "No Trespassing" signs, it was quite easy to drive along a dirt track to 90 degrees W, and then walk slightly south. We were ever so slightly north of the exact spot because it was in the middle of a murky backwater behind the levee.

This was Kris's first confluence, and he noted that it was a signifant one, being tens of degrees.
