17-Mar-2003 -- It looked very simple. The N4 E101 confluence was located almost ON the mainroad nr. 5 from Sabak Bernam to the North, according to the map on the confluence site (picture 4). Maybe a little too close to Sungai Perak, one of the biggest rivers in Malaysia.
But when we started our trip from Teluk Intan in the early afternoon, it became clear soon that the map was wrong! Quite some distance before the junction with the nr. 5, we came close (about 1 km) to the N4 E101 confluence, and we tried a few small side roads to come even closer.
No chance, there was the mighty Perak River. It looked almost like the degree confluence was located in the middle of this river. Should we have to rent a boat, like a friend had warned us already? Still we got the impression that the confluence might be at the other side of the river.
So, we went to the nr. 5 route, crossed the bridge and turned right as soon as possible. Real countryside, a small kampung, and of course palm oil plantations. Well kept, passable tracks, we came nearer and nearer, still no river! The last few hundred meters we had to walk, and YES, we got a bearing of N4° 00.000' and E101° 00.000'. Our first degree confluence!
About 50 meters further the track ended in the rivermarshes..:-)
