03-Oct-2003 -- Well, this is it, after completing this visit I will have personally have visited all of the land based points in England. A feat that I don't see anyone else repeating any time in the foreseeable future - why? see http://www.confluence.org/confluence.php?lat=55&lon=-3
We left 51N 03W and headed back in the general direction of home along the A303 through the lovely rolling countryside of Southern England past the ancient wonder of Stonehenge - see this site or this other site
I had printed off the detailed map from this site and we followed the "southern" loop around the cp. Stopping on this loop at exactly 2W show a long trip down a steep hill and through fields with cattle in. Must be an easier way.
Carry on round the loop and up the left hand side (see the map) and we found a track that looked like it went much closer. This was barely wide enough for the car. After about 400 yards it opened into a large field, the track carried on to locked gates.
We parked up and I set off on foot. Stopping at the gate I took the general location shots that make up this panoramic sweep. The field has been harvested in the last few weeks, all that remains are bits of stubble and chaff.
A further 400 yards into the field and I am on the spot. Success! I have completed an entire country! All 17 land based points. For a few minutes I just stand in the complete silence and take in the magnificent views while thinking about some of the other visits....
...I then took the four compass point pictures. Pic 2 - North, Pic 3 - East, Pic 4 - South and Pic 5 - West. The GPS montage provides the evidence.
I now move onto completing the next country on the list - Wales.
