14-Nov-1999 -- We were headed west for a little vacation; a weekend in the picturesque
mountains of North Carolina with some friends. A quick glance at the
Tiger Mapping Service showed a
possible easy mark just outside of High Point, only a few miles off our
route to the West. I figured we could pick it up on the way there.
I was wrong. Due to a combination of bad timing and worse traffic, the sky
got way too dark before we even got near the site. Stopping at a Shoney's
near the site to eat, we got a picture of the GPS, just in case we suffered
the same mishap on the way back.
The trip back started much earlier, and we got to the site with plenty of
daylight left. The site was in an apartment complex on the edge of a
man-made recreational lake. A little running around with the car, a little
walk down the hill behind some of the buildings, and we were right on top
of the confluence (according to the GPS). Three or four pictures, and we
were out of there. I wish all of the spots were that easy.
