25-Feb-2001 -- I have driven past this confluence many times going to my parents house from
Auburn, AL in the years I lived there. I never dreamed I would be walking around in the
woods here one-day searching for that coordinate spot we confluence hunters' search for.
I turned off Highway 280 with only a topographic map to get me to my location. I followed
the map through Kellyton, and was happy to find that the roads were paved back in this
area. As I approached the confluence, I came to a dirt road to the left. I turned onto
Sally Bice Road and went until I crossed the creek on the map and parked. I was 0.31 miles
from the point, and started walking through the woods. This area looked like hunting land;
there were few houses back here. As I went back into the area, I came to a barbed wire
fence. I did not have to cross it since it ran even with the N33 line. I went back through
the brush and a marshy area, up and down little rises. Finally I got the GPS to zero out. I
took pictures of my GPS, and a picture of the actual area. As you can see, it is just a
wooded area that is kind of thick with undergrowth (and briars). I took a picture of the
dirt road where I parked, and of the road sign at the dirt road and the paved road intersection.
It was a wet day, so I did not stay long. I moved on south to attempt N32 W86, but was
unsuccessful.
