19-Oct-2003 -- This confluence is by Stony Stream off the Dobson River north of Lake Ohau. Dave and Barry kindly agreed to join the mission, with Dave's 4WD Nissan cutting down the long walk up the Dobson down considerably.
Stony Stream is, inevitably, strewn with rocks and boulders, but our main concern was just how far out of the stream bed the confluence would be, as the valley is narrow, v-shaped and surrounded by steep scree slopes.
In the end a "mere" 80m scambling up the scree got us to our goal, although the slow pace of circling on the steep slope to find the exact spot kept the GPS guessing. With a bit of persistence from Barry we finally got all those lovely zeroes!
Thanks to: Barry & Dave for coming along, Jane & Ken Wigley for allowing us onto their land, Mapworld Christchurch for GPS hire.
