24-Oct-2003 -- From the town of Federal, where we had spent the night, this morning we
continued through the beautiful Province of Entre Ríos on route nr. 22
in direction Concordia, where we bent into the state route nr. 4 towards
North until the exit of the tourist resort Federación on the Río Uruguay.
Whilst driving towards Federación, we crossed the longitude 58°W and shortly
after we had a chance to enter a dirt road leading into a small forest of
eucalyptus, where workers were busy with cutting trees.
We passed the forest and found another dirt road leading to various orange
plantations.
We were still a 600 metres South of the confluence. So we went through the
plantation until we arrived at a field with some bulls and cows on it.
The animals were still quite far away and so we entered the field, keeping
due distance to them. We passed several boxes for bees.
Honey is common in this area and sold an many stands along the streets.
We realized the confuence to be very close to the cattle, and indeed, when
only a 35 meters off, it became clear that the chief of the
heard, a huge black bull had already stablished its rights on the
confluence.
When Captain Peter tried to aproach closer, the bull prepared itself to
defend his territory, lowering his head and starting to slowly walk towards
him.
So we took quickly the pictures in the four directions, of which we attach
the ones to East, South and West.
After this fortunately successful visit we drove into Federacíon for lunch,
in a nice restaurant directly on the shore of the Río Uruguay. Werner, having seen this huge river for the first time, remained
quite impressed.
