(visited by Robert Vincent)

04-Nov-2003 -- I had a business trip to Midland and noticed this confluence was very close by. It was a nice autumn day and the weather was very comfortable (no wind for a change). I flew into Midland International Airport, got a rental car, initiated the GPS and headed out. This confluence was located a few miles east of Midland, Texas in the heart of the Permian Basin – a prolific oil and gas producing basin in the US. There are oil and gas wells located all around.

The description of previous visit (Carlile et al) was helpful as they stated the CP was behind the homes located near the main road. After several passes along FM 307, I spotted a section that was not fenced and appeared to be connected to the area behind the homes. This looked promising. That approach, from the north and east, did in fact lead me to the CP unhindered. The goats were in the adjacent fenced in area (as mentioned in the first visit). They certainly were not disturbed as they followed me as far as they could along the fence line.

The wind blown dirt field as described in the first visit had morphed into a field filled with cotton plants this trip. The field was fully planted with cotton and the bolls were bursting and ready for harvesting. It was a short walk through this cotton field that led me to the CP. Step by step watching the zeroes come up on the GPS was no doubt entertaining to the goats.

I have seen some stunning views in my travels; unfortunately this was not one of them. This area is very flat, as if one could see all the way to California if not for the haze.

Midland experienced rain the next morning. It was only a few drops, but rain nevertheless and in this part of the country, it was welcomed.
